2020 is just getting started, and it looks like I’m going to begin the year by going back to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam.
Wow, I can’t believe it’s already been 3 years since my last visit to Nam!
Definitely, I’m excited for the upcoming trip, although I must say this all came together rather quickly (randomly). Really, I was originally planning to just continue hanging out in BGC, and getting more settled in post-kitchen remodel.
But you know, life happens, and one of the defining (best) things about early FI is the gift of being able to pack your bags and do pretty much whatever you want, on a whim.
2019 was all about family, and I’m looking forward to seeing my (other) relatives again now in 2020.
All About the Food
Oh, and certainly I’m stoked to indulge in some yummy (authentic) Vietnamese dishes again.

Gotta love the soup dishes!
Pho Hoa Pasteur, I remember has some legit pho!

Broken rice, man I miss this too (and can’t find it anywhere in Manila).

Xoi ga cha bong. Cheap and very delicious!

Gourmet banh mi from My Banh Mi.

Don’t even know what this dish is called, but it was really good (and memorable).
A plethora of fresh seafood too!

Vietnamese cuisine is truly one of a kind, and there’s no other out there quite like it.
The Plan
Tentatively, my plans are to arrive back in Ho Chi Minh City sometime in late January.
Likely, I’ll only be in Vietnam for 1-2 weeks, as I’ve still got some things to wrap up in BGC, so will need to return in relatively short order. Unfortunately, one of my good buddies who lives in Nam won’t be around town when I’m scheduled to arrive.
I sure could have used a local tour guide (who I trust) as I’ve heard so many wonderful stories about the booming development going on in Vietnam over the last few years.
Oh well. Such is life.
In any case, for early FI readers, for sure, I’ll be on the look out for some promising (and affordable) destinations that could be well suited for a RED PILL type of lifestyle.
Maybe there’s a “sleeper” new city under development in Nam that’s on par (or better) than my beloved BGC?
Anything’s possible!
I can’t wait to get there and OPEN MY EYES.
And sipping on some ca phe sua dua, oh yeahhhhh, that’s what the good life is all about!

Keep up the fight!

Man, those pics look amazing. Ive never heard of most of these dishes (wth is Broken Rice?!) but am craving some Pho now. Maybe I’ll have to venture out on this cold freezing day for some Pho 🙂
Have a great trip Jay and keep sharing
Sabeel,
Haha, yeah, a lot of the dishes have some “weird” English-translated names, but it’s basically discarded “broken” rice fragments… Sounds ummm not appetizing, but believe me, it’s delicious and many times I crave broken rice more than just regular ol rice.
