Ho Chi Minh City – The First Night (December 28, 2016)!

We have arrived in Ho Chi Minh City! It was about a 3 hour flight from Hong Kong… Got there pretty late at night, so I was eager to check into the hotel and unload some luggage.

Here’s what my room looks like…

Nice little balcony to boot… Perfect for chilling out, enjoying the nice (warm) breeze, and sipping on some coffee… Here’s the view from up top…

Scooters/motorbikes galore! That’s something you’ll observe real quick, right off the bat once you hit the streets in Vietnam…

Walked around the block for a bit, until finally settling here for a late evening snack…

Quite the sticker shock (in a good way), after having spent so much time eating out in Hong Kong and Japan…

Went with an order of Com gà Hoi An…

Yes, it’s going to take me awhile to get used to the conversion rate from Vietnamese Dong to US Dollar…

At the ATM, I initially withdrew 2 million Dong ($87.84 USD)… “Millionaire baller” status, so crazy!

Here’s the meal…

Pretty tasty… Topped off with some fish sauce (not shown above), which is something I really didn’t have often in HK, and was quite missing… The quintessential flavor enhancer for many Vietnamese dishes! 🙂

As you can see from the pic above, the serving portions in Vietnam (and SE Asia in general) are quite moderate…

But c’mon, we are talking about a $2 USD meal here! I could order 5 plates of this stuff for what it would typically cost me to eat out at a local HK restaurant…

Just sayin’…

Anyway, not to fear, there are many food options to be found around town where I’m staying… Settled for some Bánh mì!

This set me back ~$0.50 USD

All in all, a good first night…

Very much looking forward to waking up bright and early and exploring some more in the morning!

Gotta say, it’s nice to be able to (again) rock my preferred attire of: shorts, simple t-shirt, and flip flops! 🙂

Fight On!

Damn…that conversion rate is going to be complicated on a day to day basis. It looks like a place that has something for everyone and for all budgets I’m sure. Have a great time in Vietnam and keep those pics and posts coming.

Curious, but what do you use to book rooms/hotels? Vietnam is definitely on my list of countries to check out.
