September Road Trip – Arches National Park (September 29, 2017)

The Utah adventures got started on Thursday, September 28. Up first on our agenda was to visit Arches National Park located 4 miles north of the town of Moab.

The front entrance, on a somewhat cloudy morning…

Driving into the park…

The road to the popular Balanced Rock was closed on this particular day, so we elected to visit the Windows Trails first.

Very short walk to the main attraction, the North Window

Getting closer…

Wait, there’s two of them! The South Window to the right…

The nearby Turret Arch.

Me climbing on rocks…

Panoramic of the parking lot…

Next up, the Double Arch.

Pretty spectacular…

I’m a kid at heart… I’m actually sitting a lot higher up than it looks…

Still some daylight, so off we go to the Delicate Arch Trail for a modest 3 mile (roundtrip) hike.

Some elevation…

Great views…

Leading up to a breathtaking finale (too bad there was very little sun on this particular day)…

That’s all for Day 1 at Arches!

Friday morning complimentary breakfast…

A much longer hike planned for today at the Devils Garden… I think it was 7.2 miles (roundtrip)… We got started at 11:45 AM.

Here we go!

Perhaps my favorite of all the landmarks at Arches, the Landscape Arch.

Uphill ascent, woohoo!

Peering off into the distance…

So much to see here…

First, the Navajo Arch (captured with Chrome filter on my iPhone).

Going off the trail… to see the other side…

Passing by…

Wider view…

Partition Arch

Here it is!

To the Double O Arch!

Cool beans…

With a name like Dark Angel, how can you resist?

Umm, are we going the right way?

Yup, here’s Dark Angel, the last level boss of this trail…

Another angle (using Chrome filter again)…

Primitive Trail back home… “Difficult Hiking”… I think they misspoke and meant to say “Super Fun”.

Follow the stacked rocks to help navigate the path back home…

Great views = more pics!

Lots of slopes, angles, and maneuvering involved on this trail… That’s what I meant when I said “fun”…

Made it back by 4:30 PM local time.

There’s still daylight! Time to fill up at Crescent Junction before hitting the road to the next destination, Bryce Canyon National Park!

Got into town very late at night (4-5 hour drive), and this was the only restaurant still open, right off the highway… Bison burger to close out the day!

The Utah journey continues on…

Until next time!

Fight On!
