Panglao Island – Island Hopping

I gotta say, I’ve really been enjoying my stay here in the Philippines, and Cebu in particular. With that said, my family and I decided that it was about time to mix things up a little bit, so we “island hopped” on over to Panglao Island.

Panglao Island, just where on earth is that?

Yeah, your guess is as good as mine…

Essentially, I’m in the middle of nowhere right now, somewhat off the grid (my internet connection is pretty bad), and what can I say?

I’m totally loving it…

I’m a beach guy at heart, so being right next to the water (Alona Beach) is pretty awesome… I’m just soaking up the sunshine (when it’s not raining), warm weather, and fresh air.

How did I get to Panglao Island?

Via the ferry from Cebu City.

I took a ride on the SuperCat.

First stop was to Tagbilaran City, in the island province of Bohol, which took about 2 hours to get to.

Next, we hopped onboard a truck for another hour or so to get to here…

You know you are more or less off the grid when you’ve got chickens roaming around the backyard next to you…

Sometimes, it’s good (and necessary) to get away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life… Having spent so much time in the crowded cities of: Tokyo, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, etc., yup this is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Anyway, when it comes down to it, it’s this:

Early FI.

It’s YOUR life… Do what you want.

On that note, here are some totally random thoughts — Last night, my brother came home with to-go food and brought home a MASSIVE burrito. Yeah, totally not what I expected, but it looked pretty darn tasty, so I can’t wait to try one sometime later this week… In fact, I might just take one to the beach with me… I haven’t had a burrito since last summer (before I left Silicon Valley), and quite honestly, they are tough to find out here in Asia… I know HK has a few places, but I’ve only heard mixed reviews, so I’ve been reluctant to try…

Out of all the things that I could be missing most about “home”, it probably comes down to burritos and good Mexican food… Maybe this sounds crazy, but I actually can’t wait to get back to the Bay Area later in March so that I can grab some Chipotle (yes, I consider it “authentic” Mexican food after being deprived for so long!)…

And I’ll wash it down with a large Strawberries Wild from Jamba Juice!

Then I’ll go have some REAL Mexican food!

Traveling and being away from home makes you miss the little things in life that make everything all worthwhile.

Fight On!
