Manila – Three Months Later (March 1, 2018)

in Philippines, Travel Updates

In today’s society (the age of information overload), it’s all too easy to rely on becoming a consumer of consensus datapoints as opposed to embracing a Life of Doing.

As it pertains to Manila and the Philippines, I have heard varying mixed opinions from other ppl that encompass many extreme ends of the spectrum for the longest time… In Dec 2017, I finally decided that I ought to just fly out there and find out for myself what the country and ppl were all about… to me.

It has now been 3 months since I first arrived, and as I prepare to depart, even without the benefit of any thorough reflection and deep thought, I can’t help but already strongly feel like this has been one of the best experiences of my entire life!!

I made a conscious effort to start my journey in Manila with a blank canvas, and said to hell with what other ppl were trying to spit in my ear, I’m gonna go out there and experience things firsthand. I refused to fall victim of wrongly looking at things through the binary lens of solely black and white, which is all too simple and lazy a thing to do… but it’s human nature to insist on doing it! Instead, I wanted to embrace a rainbow of colors and infinite possibilities that I knew existed (if I was perceptive enough to observe it) while I was here. In the process, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon and meet some of the most amazing ppl that I’ve ever met in my life, across all countries and borders, who have now forever altered my own paradigm of what is possible out there in this world.

Through my own experience, I have observed by and large that Filipinos are some of the friendliest, most welcoming, respectful, open minded, passionate, and fun group of ppl that you will ever come across… anywhere. In my eyes, it is no joke and srsly more fun in the Philippines!

Further, I am somewhat in shock and disbelief that I was able to forge such strong friendships and bonds with certain individuals (you know who you are) in such a short period of time… ones that I will ALWAYS cherish!

In real life, oftentimes there isn’t a simple right or wrong answer. This isn’t academia… some bs multiple choice quiz… Straight up, you just gotta get out there and jump into the fire in order to find out for yourself… That’s YOUR TRUTH, and nothing else matters after that!

I am so grateful for having the opportunity to experience this latest Manila adventure. I came here as a stranger with: no friends, family, connections, ties, anything with this place. As I leave today, the 1st of March, I can’t help but feel like I’m leaving a part of me behind…

A place that I am now most fond of…

Great article on the travels, new revelations, and blazing a new trail to discover your own truths. Very interesting and inspiring simultaneously, and it stirs the travel bug inside of me to get out there and experience new places, new people, and new paradigms of thought. Cheers mate!
