September Road Trip – Four Corners (September 27, 2017)

by FI Fighter on September 27, 2017

in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Travel Updates, Utah

The road trip continues! After spending a lot of time in Arizona the last week, we’ve now arrived in Moab, Utah.

Yesterday, we finished off Arizona by visiting Horseshoe Bend, in Page, Arizona.

Front entrance sign.

Lots of tourists, of course.

We arrived around 10:30 AM, so the timing wasn’t ideal… The sun wasn’t shining directly overhead so there were still a lot of shadows…

Unfortunately, this was the best shot that I could muster…

That’s all from Page!

A somewhat lengthy drive to the next destination… Took a short break for lunch…

More Mexican food (we’ve been eating this all trip it seems)! Pretty good…

During the summer after 3rd grade (for me), the movie Forest Gump was released in theaters…

I loved that film…

Many years later, here’s our attempt to visit and photograph that same iconic running scene filmed in Monument Valley.

The image above was shot looking from the Utah side south towards Arizona (13 miles north of the Arizona/Utah border).

We spent a lot of time here… playing Frogger.

Next stop, the Four Corners Monument!

Crossing the freeway from Utah side to Colorado.

And towards the front gate… $5/person (not per car)!

Walking over to the main attraction…

Touching all four states (Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico) at the same time (and me looking like an idiot doing so)!

We spent the night in Cortez, Colorado.

Woke up this morning and went here, Spruce Tree Espresso House, for breakfast…

The menu…

Delicious across the board…

This too…

Especially this… Purple Haze (most popular coffee drink said the friendly staff)! Yummmmmmy!

Yeah, weather wasn’t so great today, unfortunately… Lots of rain and fog…

Didn’t get to explore too much of Mesa Verde National Park… just the Visitor Center.

Oh well, better luck next time…

Moving on to Utah for the next adventure!

“Life Elevated”… I like that!

Arrived in Moab, Utah… earlier this afternoon.

Here’s dinner… The first time we had Asian cuisine all trip…

A hot bowl of pho…

Some pad thai…

Super oily fried rice…

That’s all for this update!

Gonna hit the hay soon…

Then it’s off to Arches National Park tomorrow morning!

Fight On!

Overreaction due to poor PFS, which is more or less obsolete and worthless at this point.

Take care!

Just stumbled across this. We did a similar trip, going east from St George to Farmington. Spent too much time in Zion and not enough in the Page area. We passed 4 corners in the dark and crossed briefly into Colorado before docking in Farmington and then doubling back to 4 corners the next day. My girls didn’t want to see the marker so only I did- parked outside and walked up the road to it. Not sure what I expected, but still glad that I did. Next time west, Monument Valley and Arches. Wyoming has a similar horseshoe bend on the Little Bighorn near Lovell- worth a stop. Loved your pictures.

Thanks Bill!

Haha, I spent too much time in Zion too, but it’s one of my favorite national parks.

Sounds like you had an awesome trip as well. Arches is amazing for hiking, you’ll probably really enjoy it. 🙂
